I’m still desperately in love, and I’ve been lucky to be so utterly and truly happy. So much so that I’ve developed a smile line at the semi-tender age of 26. Probably also the only line in my face to date and one I wear so damn proudly (apart from the perplexed hook I also sport above my left eye from being so truly flabbergasted at the youth of today, as well as the many impressions and funny faces I’ve pulled). However, In that smile line are the moments the three of us have laughed, travelled and completely lived. Happy memories. Many sunbeams. 5 Star jokes from me and the dad jokes from Jack, Basil pretending he’s not paying attention. Yes, though I am so deeply lost these days. Having lost my beautiful Basil and a sweet souled relative of mine whom I loved dearly in the same month, after not having been able to cope with the loss of my Grand father from last year — today I can say that though I may not be entirely happy or without ill feeling, I can say that I can see the possibility of living on from now. And that’s all I have. Though I am so tired from lack of sleeping, sore from weeping and have lost about 15lbs. Its been a heavy couple of blog posts recently and i’m not sorry for that. Life is not sunshine and rainbows, and we don’t pussyfoot here on my blog. We say it as it is because other wise it’s not worth saying at all.
Its an exciting day today.
My new camera will be arriving soon — i’ve been waiting for it all day.
I’m so ridiculously excited.
I recently wrote about my current camera being close to dying, you can read my blog post here.
It feels like a new start, something i’m never adverse to. I’ve felt very “held back” by my old camera because it just couldn’t do what i wanted it to do anymore and i’ve grown away from it — but it truly has served me well over the last 6 to 7 years.
I will still use it but new camera will be the go – to.
I decided to become a Nikon user. That doesn’t mean i don’t love my canon camera — because i most definitely love working with canon, however, after all these years i wanted to get my hands on a decent Nikon. I’d used my Farfar’s camera on my last trip to Denmark and i fell in love. I can’t entirely describe it. I remember i’d discussed cameras with him and he was insistent that Nikon was the way forward due to the sharpness and detail whereas i was insistent that canon was just as good. Sometimes i like to argue even though i actually don’t entirely know what i’m talking about — it doesn’t help that Farfar and i are both stubborn as well-fed mules.
Now a few years on from said conversation i’m officially ready to admit that he was probably hitting the nail right on the head. So i bought a Nikon.
It took me a while to decide which Nikon i was going to buy. I originally wanted to get the D750 because it was cheaper than the D810 and could do most of what i wanted, but then again i also wanted the D500 because of its filming capacity (look it up — its astounding quality!) However, as i’m by no means an expert with filming or a sports photographer — i decided to get a full frame camera instead with a sugar-tonne of megapixels, and all the other hundreds of advantages that this camera has.
And i regret nothing.
I know i went all out, but i’m not the type of person who wants to upgrade every other year. If i buy something i want to live with it till it croaks. Like my Canon.
Stay tuned for a water fall of pictures as i get to know the controls and settings.
Hello lovely readers !
Let me catch you up a little on whats going on.
A few days ago i received an email asking if i was interested in contributing to an online expat magazine on expat.com.
I was so surprised and super excited, so of course i said yes. What an interesting opportunity.
I only recently happened across this website for expats a week or two ago from happening to glance at a few other expat blogs, so this all happened really quickly. Hence my surprise. Its a really great platform for people to learn about moving abroad and getting information from real people who have experienced that kind of life. So its genuine advice, thoughts and discussions. So if theres anyone out there reading this that wants to move abroad and wants a little help, this might be a nice place for you. (This is not an advert by the by — this is just my own opinion and i’m not paid to have said opinion).
Anyway, they sent me a list of questions to answer about my blog and my general expat experiences. I know i don’t write like other people so i was a little unsure that my writing was right for something like this as its very “novel-esque,” but thats just the ever present self doubt we all suffer from once in a while making an appearance.
Tomorrow this little extract on me goes live on the online magazine, and i didn’t realise it that it means i am “the blogger of the month” August 2018 ! How exciting is that after only having been a member for a very short time?
Thats my little bit of news for this gloomy Monday night.
I hope you all have a lovely on going week, and that its not as humid where you are as it is here.
You can read the “interview” here!
