When I was only nineteen I left England for the final time. My mum kissed me on the head and said “don’t you sit and cry now, you’re going onwards. That’s okay.” I sat and I cried the whole way to the airport but I was happy. However I was not ignorant of the toll this kind of life would have on me. I come from a little invisible town on the farmlands of Denmark, a place that nobody knows and so the name doesn’t matter. As I grew up I always wondered how life would’ve been had I spent my life in Denmark like I’d always wanted, but alas, I was never to find out… the world knew better. She had her ideas and stories and dreams; I was chosen to write them whatever cruelty it may bestow upon me. It is a gift I’ve been given and that how I live it. I moved to Huntsville, Texas. From there I sailed in New England for a while until I travelled to Wyoming; where I am now and it’s the furthest I’ve ever been from sweet Scandinavia. But from here? I don’t know. Could be Texas. Could be Norway for all I know. I’m not one to try to predict the future because she’s already made a fool of me once or twice. If I could but tell you what I have seen in my years in the forests, on the seas and on the high deserts. I rode with the love of my life in the outback of Texas with spiders as big as globes, and since that day I shall never be without my hat – believe me. I pirated around on boats and had the sea air in my face, all the while grey seals and harbor cats chased my tail out to the islands - six miles off shore. Now I run with the mustangs and sometimes I’ll sit listen to them talk a while too. So you see, I’ve lived a lot of lives but there is never a day that goes by when I don’t think of home, but it’s not the same anymore. I ‘m a writer, an actress when it suits me, a photographer and a sailor when I’m on the right side of the world. Above all that, I am a Nordic kid with no home besides the one under the stars and that’s the one I like. Stay a while, warm yourself by my fire and let’s tell stories of yesteryear, laugh at our ancestors and forget the world. Because life is just too damn short.
